Resources for creating an inclusive and welcoming classroom

Read alouds!

  • Love Makes a Family: (For younger kids, 4 minutes, about all different types of family activities with all types of families pictured)

  • Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag (8 minute read and a true story. It has the word "assassinated" in it, as Harvey Milk was shot.)

  • Max and the Talent Show by author Kyle Lukoff. This story, about Max and his friend Stephen, celebrates individuality and each of our unique traits.

  • Stella Brings the Family, by Miriam B. Schiffer, is about a girl with two daddies who is unsure what to do when her class is having a Mother’s Day celebration.

Trivia Night Tickets On Sale!

The annual spring Trivia night is June 2! THEME ALERT - NEON! Interpret as you will -  wear your 80s finest, your day glo, your glow in the dark, your middle schooler's leftovers from that last dance - whatever brings out your brightest self.

Tickets now on sale on membership toolkit.

We'll also be hosting our annual spring silent auction alongside this event - which will be open online to the whole Brooks community.

Do you have something you would can donate for us to auction or raffle? A special skill? A gift card to your business or that you have lying around? Sports or event tickets? Fun unused stuff? Please email fundraising@brooksptomedford.org. Thank you for being the best hive!

Field Day - 6/9 (6/12, rain date)

Field day is coming up and we still need a few things to make it a success:

  • If you're able to donate gallons of water and/or cups (smaller size) that would be a huge help to keep the kids (and adults) hydrated. Donations can be dropped off in the parent room anytime between now and June 8.
  • We could still use a couple of large bags of ice, to be dropped off at the field in the morning. Any first shift volunteers willing to bring some ice?
  • We need 1-2 wagons to transport water for some of the games. Please contact Alexis Davis (ashinchey@gmail.com) to coordinate pick up if you have one to donate.

DAY OF: Please apply sunscreen to your kiddos in the morning. They will be outside anywhere from 8:30-12:30.

Some classes will eat their snack at the field. If you're able to send a snack with disposable packaging that would be helpful. If not, please be sure all containers and water bottles are labeled.

Thank You from the Helping Hands Committee

Thank you to everyone who participated in our last Food Drive of the school year!

Together, we collected 212 bags of non-perishable groceries and personal care items. These were donated to the food pantry at St. Raphael’s Church and the Community Cupboard at the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Congratulations to Ms. Pyrcz (PK) for donating the most items. This classroom will keep the “Can Man” until our next Food Drive in the fall.

Honorable mentions for each grade level include:
K—Micieli
1— Hagerty
2— Gatto
3—MacIsaac
4—Pyrcz
5—O'Leary

In the 2022-2023 school year, our hive collected over 700 bags of food for our community. Thank you to everyone who participated, and our amazing Helping Hands Committee.

See you all next year!

3rd Grade Songwriting Project

Local musicians, Laura Brereton and Raleigh Green, led the 3rd Grade in a Songwriting Project. This year, the kids chose to write a theme song for the Brooks School. We proudly present to you "The Brooks Bees Song"! We hope you all enjoy it and we hope that kids in other grades will learn the song, too!
